The sketches were collected on a
single page and shaded with a pencil.
The above illustration shows the
original size of the drawings. These
pages were then enlarged to their
trimmed size using a photocopier
and coloured with Gouache colours |

The Making of the Comic
The plot was first written down in
script form and then keywords
were assigned to individual pages
(A). The next step was to
translate the keywords into small
sketches (B) and then into more
precise pencil drawings (C) |

The colouring of the 301
illustrations was done directly onto
the photocopy. Consequently the
coloured originals of the comic pages
are the same size as the printed
versions. The copied pencil hatching
can be seen through the layers of
colour and produce a slightly antique
looking structure |
